Overview

UQP12 is a preclinical-stage siRNA therapeutic being developed by BioGene Therapeutics, a subsidiary of PreveCeutical Medical, for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. It utilizes "Smart-siRNA" technology designed to target and silence the mRNA of Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) in the brain. PTP1B is a negative regulator of insulin and leptin signaling; by inhibiting its expression, the drug aims to restore sensitivity to these hormones. The siRNA is encapsulated in bio-responsive lipid nanoparticles (bLNP) and delivered via an intranasal nose-to-brain nasal spray using a proprietary Sol-Gel platform to bypass the blood-brain barrier.
