uracil mustard

Uracil mustard (also known as uramustine) is a small molecule chemotherapy drug classified as an alkylating agent and a derivative of nitrogen mustard and uracil. It is primarily used in the treatment of lymphatic malignancies such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hodgkin disease, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The drug acts by damaging DNA through alkylation; cancer cells preferentially take up the compound due to their increased need for nucleic acids during rapid cell division. This DNA damage leads to apoptosis of affected cells. Uracil mustard is administered orally and has been associated with bone marrow suppression and gastrointestinal toxicity as its main side effects[1][2][4][5][6].
