Overview

urapidil + esmolol is a combination therapy being investigated for the management of acute hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH). Urapidil is a small molecule antihypertensive that acts as a selective peripheral alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist and a central 5-HT1A receptor agonist, which reduces blood pressure without causing reflex tachycardia. Esmolol is an ultra-short-acting, highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that reduces heart rate and myocardial contractility. This combination is being evaluated in a prospective, open-label, observational, multicenter study sponsored by Qianfoshan Hospital to determine its efficacy and safety in controlling both blood pressure and heart rate in patients within 6 hours of HICH onset, aiming to improve clinical outcomes by preventing hematoma expansion.
