Overview

This investigational topical combination therapy, consisting of 1% cannabidiol (CBD) and 10% urea in a lotion form, is being developed by Khon Kaen University in Thailand. It is primarily indicated for the relief of pruritus (itching) and the improvement of skin hydration in patients with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). Cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid derived from *Cannabis sativa*, is thought to exert anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects by modulating the endocannabinoid system, specifically targeting cannabinoid receptors in the skin. Urea serves as a moisturizing agent and humectant, enhancing skin barrier function and hydration. The formulation is currently being evaluated in a Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, controlled crossover trial to assess its efficacy compared to urea lotion alone.
