Overview

Urea + lactic acid is a topical combination used primarily as an emollient and keratolytic agent for the treatment of dry, rough, or scaly skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, xerosis, and hyperkeratosis. Urea acts as a humectant and keratolytic by drawing moisture into the skin and breaking down hardened or scaly areas to facilitate exfoliation. Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates the outermost layer of skin while also aiding in moisture retention. Together they synergistically hydrate the skin and promote smoother texture by removing dead cells from the surface[6][8]. This combination may also be used to treat certain nail disorders (e.g., ingrown nails) and has been studied for prevention of hand-foot syndrome in chemotherapy patients[4]. The product is generally well-tolerated but may cause mild local irritation.
