Urea + miconazole is a topical combination therapy used for the treatment of superficial fungal skin infections, including tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea corporis (ringworm). Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that works by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, which is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of methylated sterol precursors lead to fungal cell death. Urea acts as a keratolytic agent and humectant; it softens the stratum corneum and increases skin hydration, which facilitates the penetration of miconazole into the infected skin layers. This combination is particularly effective for fungal infections accompanied by skin thickening or hyperkeratosis. It is manufactured and marketed by Shenqi Pharmaceutical.
