Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Urivent is an approved generic formulation of tamsulosin hydrochloride developed and manufactured by Al-Madina Pharmaceuticals. It is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, specifically targeting the alpha-1A and alpha-1D receptor subtypes. These receptors are predominantly located in the smooth muscle of the human prostate, prostatic urethra, and bladder neck. By blocking these receptors, Urivent relaxes the smooth muscle tissue, which reduces urethral resistance, improves urine flow rate, and alleviates lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
