Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Uro-Akut is an over-the-counter (OTC) product developed by Kwizda Pharma for the dietary management of acute and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is formulated as a drinking granulat containing a combination of D-mannose, cranberry extract, and vitamins B3 (nicotinamide), C (ascorbic acid), and D3 (cholecalciferol). The product works through a non-pharmacological, anti-adhesive mechanism: D-mannose and cranberry proanthocyanidins bind to the fimbriae of uropathogenic bacteria, such as *Escherichia coli*, preventing them from adhering to the urothelial lining of the urinary tract. This facilitates the removal of bacteria through urination. It is classified as a food for special medical purposes (balanced diet) for the dietary management of recurrent and acute urinary tract infections.
