Urostone Tong Pills

Urostone Tong Pills (also known as Urinary Stone Relief Pills or Niao Shi Tong Wan) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed and utilized by Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of upper urinary tract stones, including kidney stones and ureteral calculi, particularly those ranging from 4 to 6 mm in diameter. The formulation is designed to facilitate medical expulsive therapy (MET) through a multi-targeted pharmacological approach that includes promoting diuresis to increase urinary pressure, exerting antispasmodic effects to relax ureteral smooth muscle, and providing anti-inflammatory activity to reduce mucosal edema. In clinical settings, it is frequently evaluated as an adjunct to alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonists like tamsulosin to improve stone expulsion rates and manage postoperative residual fragments.
