Overview

Ursolic acid nanoliposome is an investigational liposomal formulation of ursolic acid, a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpenoid, developed by Wuhan Liyuanheng Pharmaceutical Technology. Ursolic acid exhibits significant anti-tumor activity but is limited by poor aqueous solubility and low bioavailability. The nanoliposomal delivery system is designed to enhance the pharmacokinetic profile, improve solubility, and increase tumor-site accumulation of the drug. Mechanistically, ursolic acid induces apoptosis and inhibits tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis by modulating multiple signaling pathways, including the inhibition of Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and STAT3, and the activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway through caspase activation and regulation of Bcl-2 family proteins. It has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials in China for patients with advanced solid tumors, specifically targeting hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric cancer, and colorectal cancer.
