Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ursolic acid nanoliposomes are a liposomal formulation of the pentacyclic triterpenoid ursolic acid, developed by Wuhan Liyuanheng Pharmaceutical Technology. Ursolic acid is a natural compound found in various plants that exhibits potent anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. However, its clinical utility has historically been limited by poor water solubility and low bioavailability. The nanoliposomal delivery system enhances the solubility and targeted delivery of ursolic acid to tumor tissues. The drug works by inducing apoptosis in cancer cells, inhibiting cell proliferation, and suppressing angiogenesis through the modulation of various signaling pathways, including the inhibition of NF-κB and STAT3, and the activation of caspases. It has been investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials in China for several solid tumors, including liver, lung, and gastric cancers.
