Ursoliv

Ursoliv is a hepatoprotective combination drug developed by Avva Pharmaceuticals that integrates the bile acid ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) with the prebiotic lactulose. Ursodeoxycholic acid works by reducing the cholesterol saturation of bile, promoting the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones, and protecting liver cells (hepatocytes) from the toxic effects of hydrophobic bile acids. Lactulose is included in the formulation to provide a prebiotic effect, supporting the gut-liver axis by promoting a healthy intestinal microbial balance and enhancing the gastrointestinal barrier function. The drug is specifically indicated for the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis (in the absence of decompensation), choledocholithiasis (bile duct stones), and bile-reflux gastritis. It is typically administered as 250 mg capsules.
