Urtica comp. gel

Urtica comp. gel is a topical anthroposophic medication being investigated for the prevention and treatment of radiation dermatitis (RD), particularly in breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. Anthroposophic medicines are based on a holistic approach to health. The gel is composed of herbal extracts, with the name suggesting it contains Urtica (nettle). In a Phase II clinical trial (NCT03494205), Urtica comp. gel was compared to the standard of care, Excipial-Hydrolotion. While it did not show a statistically significant difference in the maximum grade of acute RD, the gel significantly reduced the need for rescue medication. Patients using Urtica comp. gel also reported that the appearance of their skin reaction was significantly better and noted a trend towards reduced pain and itchiness.
