Drug intelligence / Profile preview
UstekiRel is a biosimilar of ustekinumab developed and marketed by Reliance Life Sciences. It is a fully human IgG1κ monoclonal antibody that binds with high affinity and specificity to the shared p40 subunit of interleukins IL-12 and IL-23. By targeting this subunit, UstekiRel prevents these cytokines from interacting with the IL-12Rβ1 receptor protein on the surface of immune cells, thereby inhibiting the downstream inflammatory signaling pathways (such as Th1 and Th17 responses) that drive various autoimmune conditions. The product is administered subcutaneously and is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. It is available in 45mg and 90mg injection formulations and is currently marketed in India and other international markets.
