Overview

Recombinant human uteroglobin (rhUteroglobin), also known as rhCC10, is a synthetic version of the endogenous secretoglobin protein SCGB1A1, which is primarily secreted by Clara cells in the respiratory epithelium. It acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent. The primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of phospholipase A2 (PLA2), an enzyme responsible for releasing arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids, thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Additionally, rhUteroglobin has been shown to modulate cytokine expression and inhibit the chemotaxis of inflammatory cells. Developed primarily by Clarassance, it has been investigated in clinical trials for the prevention of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in premature infants and for the treatment of other inflammatory respiratory conditions, including asthma and allergic rhinitis.
