Overview

Utidelone + capecitabine is a combination therapy under investigation for the treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer, particularly in patients who have previously received taxane and/or anthracycline regimens. Utidelone is a novel microtubule stabilizing agent and an epothilone B analogue produced by genetic engineering. It binds to microtubules at a site distinct from paclitaxel, stabilizing them and inhibiting cell division, while also evading common resistance mechanisms such as P-glycoprotein-mediated drug efflux[1][6]. Capecitabine is an oral prodrug that is enzymatically converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in tumor tissues, where it acts as an antimetabolite by inhibiting thymidylate synthase and interfering with DNA synthesis[8][3]. The combination has shown improved progression-free survival compared to capecitabine alone in clinical trials for metastatic breast cancer[2][7].
