Overview

UTRxM1-18 is a novel, investigational mRNA-destabilizing therapy developed by UTR Therapeutics to target cancers driven by the c-MYC oncogene. Utilizing proprietary 3’UTR engineering technology, the drug selectively destabilizes and degrades c-MYC mRNA transcripts in tumor cells by overwriting the 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) of the mRNA, which normally stabilizes these transcripts. This approach leverages molecular machinery present specifically in tumor cells, thereby sparing healthy cells and minimizing off-target effects—a major limitation of previous attempts to target c-MYC. Preclinical studies have demonstrated robust dose-dependent efficacy against multiple cancer types including triple-negative breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and ovarian cancer with no dose-limiting toxicities observed even at high doses. The first-in-human Phase 1 clinical trial is anticipated to begin in 2026 pending FDA approval[1][2][5][6].
