UV-Tianjin is an ultraviolet-inactivated form of the Sendai virus (SeV) strain Tianjin, being investigated as an oncolytic virotherapy for cancer, specifically breast cancer. Unlike live oncolytic viruses, UV-Tianjin is replication-incompetent but retains the ability to interact with cell surfaces and trigger intracellular signaling. It induces apoptosis in various breast cancer cell lines (e.g., MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and T47D) through both the mitochondrial (intrinsic) and death receptor (extrinsic) pathways. This involves the regulation of Bcl-2 family proteins, cytochrome c release, and activation of caspases (7, 8, and 9). Preclinical studies demonstrate its efficacy in inhibiting tumor growth and increasing tumor cell apoptosis in vivo.
