UV1 is an off-the-shelf synthetic peptide cancer vaccine designed to stimulate the immune system to target human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), a universal cancer antigen expressed in 85–90% of cancers. The vaccine consists of three long synthetic peptides representing fragments of the hTERT subunit and contains multiple CD4 and CD8 T-cell epitopes that allow for broad population coverage without HLA pre-screening. Administered via repeated intradermal injections with GM-CSF as an immune modulator, UV1 aims to induce cytotoxic T-cell responses against telomerase-expressing tumor cells. Developed by Ultimovacs, it is being investigated in combination with checkpoint inhibitors such as nivolumab and ipilimumab for several solid tumors. The FDA has granted Fast Track designation for its use in unresectable malignant pleural mesothelioma based on encouraging phase II trial results showing improved overall survival when combined with immunotherapy.
