Overview

Uvidem is an investigational autologous cell-based therapeutic vaccine developed for the treatment of melanoma. It consists of mature dendritic cells derived from the patient, which are loaded (pulsed) with lysates from three allogeneic melanoma tumor cell lines. This approach is designed to present a broad spectrum of melanoma-associated antigens to the patient's immune system, specifically activating T-cells to recognize and destroy cancer cells. Developed by IDM Pharma in partnership with Sanofi, Uvidem reached Phase II clinical trials for patients with Stage II, III, and IV melanoma. Although preliminary results indicated the vaccine was well-tolerated and capable of inducing immune responses, Sanofi discontinued its participation in the program in late 2007, and the rights reverted to IDM Pharma.
