Drug intelligence / Profile preview
UX-GIP001 is an investigational cell therapy product consisting of human GABAergic interneuron progenitor (GIP) cells. Developed by Uni-X Bioscience, it is intended to treat adult patients with drug-resistant unilateral mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). The therapy utilizes a regenerative approach where progenitor cells are delivered via stereotactic neurosurgery directly into the epileptic focus. Once integrated, these cells are designed to differentiate into mature GABAergic interneurons that release gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. By restoring the balance between excitatory and inhibitory signaling, UX-GIP001 aims to reduce seizure frequency and address the underlying pathophysiology of MTLE in patients who do not respond to conventional anti-epileptic medications.
