Drug intelligence / Profile preview
UZEDY is a long-acting, extended-release injectable formulation of risperidone indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. It is administered subcutaneously (under the skin) and utilizes proprietary SteadyTeq (BEPO) copolymer technology to provide sustained release of risperidone over one or two months per injection. UZEDY is the first subcutaneous, long-acting formulation of risperidone available in both one- and two-month dosing intervals. The mechanism of action involves antagonism at dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, which helps balance neurotransmitters implicated in psychosis and mood regulation. UZEDY was developed by MedinCell using their BEPO technology and is distributed by Teva Pharmaceuticals[1][3][4][5][7][8][10].
