Overview

v-Src siRNA is a research-grade small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the v-Src oncogene, the transforming protein of the Rous Sarcoma Virus (RSV). v-Src is a constitutively active, membrane-associated tyrosine kinase that was the first oncogene to be discovered and serves as a critical model for understanding cellular transformation and cancer signaling. The siRNA functions through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, where it is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to guide the sequence-specific cleavage and degradation of v-Src messenger RNA (mRNA). This reduction in v-Src protein levels allows researchers to investigate the role of Src signaling in cell proliferation, survival, and motility, as well as its impact on downstream pathways such as PI3K/Akt and MAPK/ERK. While primarily used as a laboratory tool in cell culture and animal models of sarcoma, v-Src siRNA has been instrumental in validating Src as a therapeutic target in oncology.
