Drug intelligence / Profile preview
V0002 CA is an investigational oral formulation of omega-3-acid ethyl esters developed by Pierre Fabre Médicament. It was primarily evaluated in a Phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study (EudraCT 2008-003845-15) conducted in France. The trial investigated the drug's ability to prevent or reduce niacin-induced flushing—a common side effect of nicotinic acid therapy—and its impact on lipid parameters in adult patients with dyslipidemia and uncontrolled hypertriglyceridemia on background statin therapy. V0002 CA was administered as 1g capsules three times daily in combination with extended-release niacin (Niaspan). Its therapeutic effect is derived from the modulation of lipid metabolism and the potential interference with prostaglandin-mediated vasodilatory pathways that cause flushing.
