Drug intelligence / Profile preview
V1003 is a novel, proprietary intranasal formulation of buprenorphine developed for the management of post-operative pain. Buprenorphine is a potent opioid analgesic that acts as a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor. The intranasal delivery system was designed to provide rapid onset of pain relief suitable for both hospital and home settings. In clinical studies, V1003 demonstrated statistically significant superiority over placebo and even Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminophen) in certain dosing regimens for acute post-surgical pain relief. The most common adverse events were typical opioid-related effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and sleepiness[1][3][5][6].
