Drug intelligence / Profile preview
V113741 is a small molecule antagonist of the **Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1)** receptor, also known as the capsaicin receptor. Developed by **Purdue Pharma**, it was investigated as a potential analgesic for the treatment of neuropathic and inflammatory pain. TRPV1 is a non-selective cation channel that plays a critical role in the detection of noxious heat and chemical stimuli; its activation leads to the sensation of pain and the development of thermal hyperalgesia. V113741 was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials, including a capsaicin-induced pain challenge study in healthy male volunteers, to assess its ability to reduce secondary hyperalgesia and allodynia endpoints. However, like many other TRPV1 antagonists, its clinical development appears to have been discontinued, often due to class-wide concerns regarding core body temperature elevation (hyperthermia) and altered thermal perception.
