Drug intelligence / Profile preview
V118 is an investigational 31-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV31) developed by Merck & Co. (MSD). It is designed to provide broader protection against *Streptococcus pneumoniae* by targeting 31 different serotypes, expanding upon the coverage provided by earlier generation vaccines such as V114 (15-valent) and V116 (21-valent). The vaccine utilizes a conjugate technology where capsular polysaccharides from each of the 31 serotypes are linked to a carrier protein to induce a T-cell dependent immune response, which is intended to be effective across various age groups, including infants and older adults. V118 is currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the prevention of pneumococcal disease.
