V3G CH848 mRNA-Tr2 is an mRNA lipid nanoparticle vaccine encoding a soluble HIV-1 envelope trimer. It's designed to be used as a boost immunogen following priming with V3G CH848 Pr-NP1 (a protein-based ferritin nanoparticle vaccine). This prime-boost regimen aims to induce HIV-1 Env V3-glycan-specific broadly neutralizing antibodies (V3G bNAbs). The vaccine works by delivering mRNA instructions to muscle cells, which then produce and display HIV-like proteins on their surface, stimulating the immune system to recognize and potentially fight HIV upon future exposure. The mRNA remains in the body for only a couple of days before naturally breaking down and does not interact with human DNA.
