V710

V710 is an investigational vaccine developed for the prevention of Staphylococcus aureus infections. The vaccine contains a highly conserved protein antigen, iron surface determinant B (IsdB), from S. aureus, designed to elicit an immune response and generate protective antibodies against the bacterium. Developed through a collaboration between Intercell and Merck, V710 was evaluated in multiple clinical trials for its safety and immunogenicity in populations at high risk for S. aureus infection, such as patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery or hemodialysis. While it demonstrated the ability to induce immune responses in these populations, a large Phase II/III trial was terminated after interim analysis indicated that significant clinical benefit would not be achieved.
