Overview

**V99P2** is an investigational parenteral recombinant protein-subunit vaccine developed for prevention of *Helicobacter pylori* infection. It contains three recombinant *H. pylori* virulence-associated antigens—vacuolating cytotoxin A, cytotoxin-associated antigen, and neutrophil-activating protein—adsorbed to aluminum hydroxide and administered intramuscularly. The vaccine was originated by Chiron and subsequently developed by Novartis Vaccines. Early Phase I studies found it generally well tolerated and immunogenic, with antigen-specific humoral and cellular responses; however, the randomized Phase I/II human challenge study did not show protection beyond placebo, and the program was not pursued further.
