Overview

VAC-02 is a subunit vaccine candidate developed by Minka Therapeutics (formerly InnaVirVax) for the prevention and treatment of HIV-1 infection and other infectious diseases. The vaccine is composed of the W614A-3S peptide, a mutated version of a conserved epitope on the HIV-1 gp41 envelope protein, conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein. It is designed to induce neutralizing antibodies against the 3S epitope of gp41, which plays a critical role in viral entry and immune evasion. While initially focused on HIV, VAC-02 is positioned as a therapeutic platform with potential applications across a range of infectious diseases. Preclinical studies in animal models have demonstrated its ability to induce specific antibodies when formulated with a squalene emulsion adjuvant, and it has progressed into Phase 1 clinical evaluation.
