Overview

VAC-3S is a therapeutic vaccine developed for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It consists of a highly conserved peptide motif from the gp41 region of the HIV-1 virus, coupled with the CRM197 carrier protein. The vaccine is designed to induce anti-3S antibodies, which are associated with improved protection and survival of CD4+ T cells in people living with HIV. By targeting this conserved region, VAC-3S aims to preserve immune function by preventing the decline in CD4+ T lymphocytes that characterizes HIV progression. Clinical studies have shown that administration of VAC-3S increases anti-3S antibody levels and leads to immunological benefits such as increased CD4+ T cell counts and improved CD4/CD8 ratios in patients on antiretroviral therapy[1][2][3][4][5]. The drug was initially developed by Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris SA and further advanced by InnaVirVax.
