VACCIMEL (CSF-470) is a therapeutic cancer vaccine consisting of a mixture of four lethally irradiated allogeneic human melanoma cell lines (Mel-XY1, Mel-XY2, Mel-XY3, and Mel-XX4). Developed by Laboratorio Pablo Cassará in collaboration with the Fundación Cáncer (FUCA) and the Centro de Investigaciones Oncológicas in Argentina, it is primarily indicated for the adjuvant treatment of high-risk cutaneous melanoma. The vaccine is designed to provide a broad spectrum of shared tumor-associated antigens (TAAs), including melanoma differentiation antigens and cancer-testis antigens, as well as somatic neoantigens and allogeneic HLA molecules. VACCIMEL is typically administered intradermally alongside adjuvants such as Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) and recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (rhGM-CSF/molgramostim) to enhance immune recruitment and maturation of antigen-presenting cells. Clinical trials have demonstrated that VACCIMEL significantly prolongs distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) in melanoma patients compared to standard interferon-alpha 2b, while maintaining a superior quality of life and lower toxicity profile.
