Vaccine Enhancement Patch

Vaccine Enhancement Patch is an investigational topical vaccine-adjuvant patch developed by Iomai and subsequently advanced by Intercell for use alongside intramuscular vaccines, including inactivated influenza A H5N1 vaccine. The patch delivers native **Escherichia coli** heat-labile enterotoxin as a cutaneous immunostimulant; in the cited H5N1 Phase 1/2 study, the VEP contained 50 mcg of LT and was applied at the vaccine injection site. LT promotes local activation and migration of skin antigen-presenting cells, particularly dendritic cells, to regional draining lymph nodes, thereby enhancing immune responses to the co-administered vaccine antigen.
