Overview

*Vachellia nilotica* extract (also known as Acacia nilotica) is a botanical substance derived from the Babool tree, widely studied for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and agricultural properties. In medicinal contexts, particularly when formulated as nanoparticles (VNNPs), the extract is used to treat diabetic wounds by modulating the inflammatory microenvironment. It functions by significantly reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), and Interleukin-8 (IL-8), as well as downregulating Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP2, MMP7, and MMP9) while increasing Tissue Inhibitors of Matrix Metalloproteinases (TIMPs). In agriculture, the leaf extract acts as a natural urease inhibitor, slowing the hydrolysis of urea in soil to enhance nitrogen use efficiency and promote crop growth.
