Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The vaginal bacterial mixture is an investigational live biotherapeutic product consisting of a synthetic consortium of healthy, commensal vaginal bacteria (primarily *Lactobacillus* species). Developed by Dr. Ahinoam Lev-Sagie at the Hadassah Medical Organization in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science, this artificial mixture is designed to restore a healthy, *Lactobacillus*-dominated vaginal microbiome in women suffering from recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV). Administered vaginally following standard antibiotic therapy, the mixture aims to re-establish the natural acidic microenvironment of the vagina, outcompete dysbiotic anaerobic pathogens, and prevent the high rates of recurrence typically associated with antibiotic-only regimens.
