Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vaginal four-strain live Lactobacillus capsule is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of bacterial vaginosis (BV). The formulation consists of four specific strains of Lactobacillus: *L. crispatus*, *L. gasseri*, *L. jensenii*, and *L. rhamnosus*. These strains are natural inhabitants of a healthy vaginal microbiome and are intended to restore a Lactobacillus-dominant environment following antibiotic therapy. The drug works by re-establishing the vaginal microbiota, producing lactic acid to maintain a low vaginal pH (typically <4.5), and secreting antimicrobial substances such as hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins to inhibit the growth of anaerobic pathogens like *Gardnerella vaginalis*. It is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials in China, sponsored by Peking Union Medical College Hospital and manufactured by Zhejiang Wansheng Pharmaceutical.
