Overview

Vaginal supernatant is the sterile, cell-free liquid component obtained from vaginal fluid after processing. It contains a complex mixture of metabolites, proteins, antimicrobial peptides, and other soluble factors secreted by host cells and the resident microbiota. [2, 12, 17] It is being investigated as an experimental therapeutic modality, often in combination with probiotics like *Lactobacillus crispatus*, for treating vaginal dysbiosis. The underlying principle is that these soluble components from a healthy vaginal environment can help restore a healthy, acidic pH, inhibit pathogens, and regulate local immune responses. A clinical trial run by The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University is studying its effects on vaginal microbiota reconstruction.
