Vagisil Creme

Vagisil Creme is an over-the-counter topical medication developed by Combe Incorporated for the temporary relief of external vaginal itching and irritation. It is available in several formulations, most notably a combination of benzocaine and resorcinol. Benzocaine acts as a local anesthetic by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve endings, thereby inhibiting the conduction of pain and itch impulses. Resorcinol serves as an external analgesic and antiseptic with mild anti-inflammatory properties. A sensitive skin variant utilizes hydrocortisone acetate, a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by acting as an agonist at the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to the suppression of inflammatory cytokines. The product is indicated for itching associated with yeast infections, menstrual pads, shaving, or vaginal dryness.
