Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vagitocin is a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of vaginal atrophy, particularly in post-menopausal women. It is a gel formulation containing oxytocin as the active ingredient, designed for local vaginal application. When applied locally, oxytocin has been shown to rejuvenate the vaginal mucosa by stimulating mucosal growth, increasing the percentage of superficial cells, and improving the maturation value of vaginal cells. The drug has undergone Phase 2 clinical trials, but its development has been temporarily put on hold until a better understanding of its mechanism of action is gained.
