Overview
Vaill Covitrap is an innovative anti-SARS-CoV-2 nasal spray designed to provide both a physical and immunological barrier against viral infection. Developed through a collaboration between Chulalongkorn University, Silpakorn University, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), and Hibiocy Co., Ltd., the product contains human monoclonal antibodies that specifically target the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. When administered intranasally, these antibodies create a layer on the nasal mucosa that traps viral particles, preventing them from binding to the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors on host cells. This mechanism effectively neutralizes the virus at the primary point of entry, reducing the viral load and the risk of systemic infection. It is intended as a supplementary preventive tool to be used in conjunction with other protective measures like vaccination and masking.
