valacyclovir + aspirin

Valacyclovir + aspirin is a non-branded combination of two well-established drugs, valacyclovir and aspirin, administered together. Valacyclovir is an oral antiviral prodrug that is rapidly converted to acyclovir in the body; it inhibits viral DNA polymerase, thereby blocking replication of herpesviruses such as HSV-1, HSV-2, and varicella-zoster virus. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis to provide analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory effects and inhibit platelet aggregation. The combination has been studied for potential additive or synergistic effects in certain contexts—such as reducing herpesvirus shedding—but available evidence does not show significant benefit over monotherapy with valacyclovir for this purpose[2]. Both agents are widely used individually for their respective indications.
