Overview
Valergen is a standardized allergen vaccine developed by the National Center of Bioproducts (BioCen) in Cuba for allergen immunotherapy (AIT). It is composed of standardized allergen extracts derived from prevalent inhalant allergens, most notably house dust mites such as *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus*, *Dermatophagoides siboney*, and *Blomia tropicalis*, as well as grass pollens. The vaccine is designed to treat allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis by inducing immune tolerance to specific allergens through repeated administration via sublingual or subcutaneous routes. This process aims to shift the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a Th1/Treg-mediated tolerant profile, thereby reducing symptoms and the need for rescue medication. While specific formulations like Valergen-BT are licensed for use in Cuba, the broader product line is listed in Phase 2 development for various indications.
