Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Valiflore is an over-the-counter (OTC) herbal combination product developed and manufactured by Niak Pharmaceutical. Formulated as an oral tablet, each dose contains 100 mg of valerian (*Valeriana officinalis*) root extract and 30 mg of passionflower (*Passiflora incarnata*) extract. Valiflore is primarily indicated for the treatment of anxiety, stress, restlessness, and sleep disorders (insomnia) associated with nervous tension. It is also utilized to alleviate gastrointestinal and neuromuscular spasms of nervous origin. The active constituents, including valerenic acid from valerian and flavonoids (such as vitexin) from passionflower, exert synergistic sedative and anxiolytic effects by modulating the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system. Specifically, they increase synaptic GABA concentrations by inhibiting its reuptake and enzymatic degradation (via GABA transaminase inhibition) and by acting as positive allosteric modulators at GABA-A receptors.
