Valnigo

Valnigo is an oral anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing medication developed and marketed by SNIG Pharma. It is a combination formulation containing sodium valproate and valproic acid, typically available as a 500mg tablet (comprising 333mg sodium valproate and 145mg valproic acid). The drug is indicated for the treatment of various forms of epilepsy, including absence, myoclonic, and tonic-clonic seizures, as well as for the management of manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Its mechanism of action is multi-faceted, primarily involving the enhancement of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain through the inhibition of GABA transaminase and stimulation of glutamate decarboxylase. Additionally, it modulates neuronal excitability by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels and T-type calcium channels, thereby stabilizing neuronal membranes and preventing excessive electrical discharge in the central nervous system.
