Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Valortim is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed for the prevention and treatment of inhalational anthrax, the most lethal form of illness in humans caused by Bacillus anthracis. It specifically targets the protective antigen (PA) component of the anthrax toxin complex. By binding to PA, Valortim blocks its ability to facilitate entry of lethal and edema factors into host cells, thereby neutralizing toxin activity and protecting cells from damage. Preclinical studies demonstrated that Valortim provides significant protection both prophylactically (before symptoms appear) and therapeutically (after symptom onset), with efficacy at low doses in animal models. The drug has shown potential for use as an immediate countermeasure following exposure to anthrax spores or after disease symptoms have developed[1][4][7][8].
