Overview

This is a combination drug consisting of valproic acid and 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine (also known as cladribine). Valproic acid is a small molecule anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer, primarily used for epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and migraine prophylaxis. It acts mainly by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain and also functions as a histone deacetylase inhibitor with potential anti-proliferative effects in oncology[1][4][8]. 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine (cladribine) is a purine nucleoside analog that interferes with DNA synthesis, leading to cell death; it is primarily used as an antineoplastic agent in hematologic malignancies such as hairy cell leukemia. The rationale for combining these agents would be to leverage both the epigenetic modulation of valproic acid and the cytotoxic action of cladribine for synergistic antitumor or immunomodulatory effects. However, there are no widely recognized brand names or established clinical uses for this specific combination.
