valproic acid + ziprasidone

Valproic acid + ziprasidone is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs used primarily in the management of bipolar I disorder, particularly for maintenance treatment in patients who do not achieve adequate symptom control with monotherapy. Valproic acid is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer that increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain, exerting antimanic and antiepileptic effects. Ziprasidone is an atypical antipsychotic that acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, with additional serotonin reuptake inhibition properties. The combination is used adjunctively to improve efficacy over monotherapy for preventing recurrence of mood episodes in bipolar disorder.
