Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a fixed-dose combination (polypill) containing three active ingredients: valsartan (80 mg), amlodipine (5 mg), and rosuvastatin (10 mg). It is currently being evaluated in the Phase III PROMOTE (Polypill and Riskometer to Prevent Stroke and Cognitive Impairment) clinical trial, sponsored by Hospital Moinhos de Vento in Brazil. The combination is designed to simultaneously manage blood pressure and cholesterol levels to prevent primary stroke and cognitive impairment in individuals with low-to-moderate cardiovascular risk. Valsartan acts as an angiotensin II receptor blocker, amlodipine as a calcium channel blocker, and rosuvastatin as an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. The trial also investigates the synergy between this pharmacological intervention and a digital health tool, the Stroke Riskometer app, for lifestyle modification.
