Valsartan + simvastatin is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, leading to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and decreased blood pressure. It is primarily used for the management of hypertension, heart failure, and diabetic nephropathy[8]. Simvastatin is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) that lowers cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. It reduces LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL ("good") cholesterol; it also lowers cardiovascular risk in patients with or at high risk for heart disease[2][4][6]. The combination may be considered in patients who require both antihypertensive and lipid-lowering therapy. Pharmacokinetic studies indicate minor interactions between these drugs that are not clinically significant[5].
